Dear Friend of the Arts in Modesto, For the last four years, the Modesto Art Museum has brought our community · 11 international and regional art exhibits · 3 tours of downtown Modesto architecture, plus a guide to Modesto’s architecture · Access to dozens of world-class movies about food and architecture, and · Many opportunities for Modestans to make and exhibit art Because we want our activities and events accessible to the greatest number of people, we keep admission either free or remarkably inexpensive. The cost of these activities, along with the costs for insurances, fees, office expenses, printing, postage, and everything else it takes to run a museum for the first four years has been covered primarily by membership dues and grants. For the first time the museum is asking the community for financial support. Our goal is to raise $7,000 by mid August to cover our expenses for the rest of 2009. So far we have raised $1,675. We have several exciting events and activities planned for the rest of 2009. · In September is Art and Design from the Golden Gate International Exposition, celebrating the 70th anniversary of the world’s fair on Treasure Island. · At the end of September is your annual opportunity to eat fine desserts and enjoy international movies at the Modesto Reel Food Film Festival. See what the national media has to say about this event by clicking here. · In November you can watch a collection of short movies at the Modesto Architecture Film Festival. · In the fall, we will unveil the Modesto Architecture Database, an online catalogue of more than 1000 Modesto buildings. Your house may be in it. · At the end of the year, we set things up for the annual mail art show, this time celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Pony Express. Last March, we had mail art from more than 400 artists in 35 countries, including more than 75 students from the Modesto area. (Henrietta Sparkman) Until the end of July, three museum members working together have offered a challenge. They will match gifts up to $500. That means, if you donate $35 to the museum, they will donate $35, or if you donate $125, they will also donate $125. I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to double your donation.
